Childhood Lesson FAIL!

When I was a kid, which was a while back, I was told to never put a plastic bag on my head. Otherwise I might suffocate.

And every bit of plastic wrapping you find today usually has a "keep away from children due to risk of suffocation" label.

But apparently, such a critical warning didn't get to everyone. Like a guy who recently tried to rob a store, and somehow ended up nearly asphyxiating himself.

Here's the article.

Thank you to my reader Sarah for sending this in.

  2. You know- your post reminded me of the first time I ever had to to do post-mortem cares.

As I was starting to zip up the vinyl post-mortem bag- it felt all wrong.
Parents told you for years not to put bags on your heads, and when you die- there you go, in a plastic bag.

Many friends and coworkers have the same eerie feeling when having to do that duty.

  3. That has to be the second most embarrassing way to asphyxiate yourself.

  6. Those warnings are only written in English. This man is described as Hispanic. Now he needs to sue the plastic bag manufacturer and get a zillion dollars, thus requiring a the law that all plastic bags must be printed in Spanish and English.

  7. And you know what? We can clearly see his face through the clear plastic bag!

Now, that one's young enough for a Darwin award. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to catch him before he reproduces.

  9. I love the deadpan description.

He said he would shoot the clerk in the head if he didn't get the money from the register, Burch said. "But he was having problems with his airflow."

Dang it all! Just when I was trying to sound all bad ass!

  11. There is a reason why Arizona wants the immigration laws enforced. Sadly this type of thing is too frequent an episode. And the rest of the country wonders why ?

  12. Yikes. And we all thought asphyxiation by plastic bag was only a risk for children under 4. I've definitely been to that circle k too!

  13. I didn't get told never to put a plastic bag over my head, but my older sister got told never to put a plastic bag over my head again, and since I was a toddler smiling happily at my parents from inside the plastic bag, I overheard the admonition.
    True story.
