Dr. Grumpy: "Have you had any seizures since your last visit?"
Mrs. Ictal: "Two. They both happened when I was napping on the couch."
Dr. Grumpy: "Okay, then let's try raising your medication dose to..."
Mrs. Ictal: "Oh, we don't need to make any changes. Now I only nap on the bed."
It is logical. You have to admit.
ReplyDeleteSorta like the old joke: A guy drinks vodka and coke one night, and wakes up with a hangover. He drinks rum and coke the next night, and wakes up with a hangover. He tries gin and coke the next night, and wakes up with a hangover.
So he swears off coke.
Patient solutions. You have to love the logic.

well, he is less likley to fall off the bed while seizing I guess.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad to admit, but I have several relatives that I think have had this exact conversation with their docs.... It makes me fearful for my children that perhaps this gene is lying dormant somewhere in me.
ReplyDeletepaisley upholstery on that couch?
ReplyDeleteActual conversation with a patient ~ "Hey pharmacy guy, my doctor said I have diabetes in my eye. Can't you get him to write for some eyedrops or something? I hate taking pills"
ReplyDeleteThat is truly some amazing logic! I also like ERP's and anon's theories a lot. (Paisley upholstery, hee!)
ReplyDeleteIf you were in academics, based on this case, you could probably get a grant from a mattress maker to study the effect of mattress napping vs. couch napping on the incidence of seizures.
ReplyDeleteThen again, if the patient didn't need a prescription for a new mattress, they might not want to fund it.
I also felt strongly reminded of the camouflage couch. :)

ReplyDeleteHe tries gin and coke the next night, and wakes up with a hangover.
