"No, ma'am, your Local Grocery Shopper's Club card is NOT an acceptable form of paying your doctor visit co-pay, nor does it get you any sort of discount here."

  1. I guess in the mind of this patient neurologists and supermarkets go hand in hand. Will a swap of wonder bread get you a prescription for imitrex?

  2. If she hasn't already been nominated, I think Mary is already in line for Sainthood.

  3. Wow. You get all the winners. By the way, why the recent changes in recommended blogs?

  4. Refer her to your post on bartering.

  5. maybe the patient was hoping to barter and willing to give you the great discounts she receives with her shopper card so you can enjoy more goods in return for your services. not considerate enough to pay in real money, but considerate enough to extend a potential discount.

  6. Perhaps, she got wind of the bartering system now in place at your office. For the love of G-d, Dr. Grumpy life sucks for you! Do you still love what you do? Sure wouldn't blame you if you didn't.

  7. I still do. For all the bullshit, I still love what I do.

Wow, that one is one I haven't seen yet.

Does Mary still have all her hair, or has she torn it all out by now?

  11. i guess your patients don't know about your alias and read your blog. otherwise, she would have known to ask if you had made room for the chickens.

  13. Maybe she thought you could use her card for discounts on diet coke and tomatoes.

  15. But, what about a library card?

And since it seems most comments here are talking turkey (or chickens) and bartering, here' a
Crazy Chicken Lady (Sue Lowden) update:

She has stated that she believes the financial market meltdown of 2008 was caused by TOO MUCH regulation, not TOO LITTLE. Kind of incredible considering that the meltdown was caused by NO regulation.

One can only hope she keeps delivering such astute and pertinent pearls of wisdom.
