On the way home from the Grumpy Neurology Emporium tonight I passed a sign: "This is National Stop-at-a-Red-Light Week. Remember to stop at red lights this week."
I'm not making this up (you can google it if you don't believe me).
I had no idea we were in need of this. Are there weeks for other traffic laws (Slam-on-the-Gas on Yellow Week, or Swerve-to-Avoid-Pedestrians week)?
And if I try to remember to stop at red lights this week, do I still have to do it next week?
Maybe the sign was not about traffic lights...not that I would know anything about any other kind of red lights...
ReplyDeleteI found out while picking up Pretty Girl from pre-school that today was National Watermelon Day. They had watermelon for everyone to eat. We all celebrated. Whoo-hoo :)
ReplyDeleteWhen do we have "dial the right number week?" or "stop asking if this is the paint shop when I answer the phone that it's the architects' office dangitall" week?
ReplyDeleteThese are the questions that keep me awake at night.
Does this mean we have to stop at ALL the red lights this week? Or can we fulfill the requirement by stopping at one?
ReplyDeleteGoodness, this is ridiculous. Okay, fine, formalities are formalities. Congress passes resolutions almost entirely for the sake of just smiling at each other to see that they share the same ideals; but, really, this is absurd. I mean, to commemorate something that isn't a law: understandable. However, who in the world sat one day in a legislative office and decided upon "stop-at-red" day. Sigh, (serious) perhaps one day, as a society, we'll earnestly have to have a national celebratory "Homicide Abstinence" day...
ReplyDeleteI would like a "Hazard lights aren't a license to be a hazard" week.
ReplyDelete"Homicide Abstinence" day...
ReplyDeleteOoooh, I like that! ;-)
I just had to google it to find out how this cause came about. The top ten videos on their website (an actual "red light" organization) was worth watching. Number two made me shout: http://www.stopredlightrunning.com/videos.html
ReplyDeleteAgain, I quote myself:
ReplyDelete"Population density is a phrase that has two meanings."
I guess you missed the memo. August has been named "State the Painfully Obvious" month.
ReplyDeleteThere is an actual "Obey the Speed Limit Day," too in CA. I received a ticket for "speeding" (officer clocked different car and attributed it to my sports car--yes he admitted it and ticketed me anyway). Before the cop sent my on my way, he said, "Don't you know it's Obey the Speed Limit Day?" My response was "Isn't it Obey the Speed Limit every day?" Silence. What a tool. We don't have to worry about "Armageddon"; our increasing stupidity and complacency will drive us to extinction.
ReplyDeleteWhen I used to make the trip from college back to my parents', there was a sign (in a seemingly random spot on a state highway) that said "Pass With Care."
ReplyDeleteFor at least the first few trips, I used to expect to see a "Resume Passing Recklessly" sign a few miles down to toad.
