General emergency - any ER. If, say, i...It depends. General emergency - any ER. If, say, it's a stroke, you'd go to the nearest ER that has a stroke service for best outcome. If you're a child with somewhat complex issues, a pediatric ER may be better. Severe traumas also tend to be airlifted to particular hospitals. Same for giving birth. So yes, hospitals can specialize in certain areas, and it makes most sense to go to those hospitals for those issues.
