They had booked passage on the Titanic to come to the US but for some reason, cancelled the trip. Less than a year later, my grandfather (and his identical twin brother) were born in London. As it turned out, they stayed until 1923. They finally made it to America on the Lusitania's sister ship, the Mauritania. I believe it was decommissioned shortly after they arrived.staceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08872800621811343464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5883634615775822475.post-5260589611864687772019-05-09T13:03:12.863-04:002019-05-09T13:03:12.863-04:00Thank you Grumpy! Until reading that I too thought it was what propelled us into WW2.

There was a newspaper ad in NT from the German embassy warninkg people not to take that ship.

Larson suggested that the ship **was** carrying munitions as evidenced by the speed in which she sank.

https://www.amazon.com/Dead-Wake-Last-Crossing-Lusitania/dp/0307408868/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=erik+larson&qid=1557384637&s=gateway&sr=8-4Williamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05720206407574457665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5883634615775822475.post-38721228595531843322019-05-08T14:46:22.477-04:002019-05-08T14:46:22.477-04:00History is the story of real live people. There were a number of aspects about the sinking of Lusitania I had been unaware of. The story of the German officer refusing to pass along the command to fire was most enlightening.

Well done Sir, and thank you!OldAFSargehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15935839956936191547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5883634615775822475.post-8232431945015122102019-05-07T12:28:58.556-04:002019-05-07T12:28:58.556-04:00We visited a museum in Cobh that told the stories ...We visited a museum in Cobh that told the stories of individuals from the Lusitania & the Titanic. I am one who had heard of Lusitania, but really didn't know much about it. It was an interesting and rather sad experience.Liz Dnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5883634615775822475.post-14285988644310775772019-05-07T11:53:22.894-04:002019-05-07T11:53:22.894-04:00You sure about those school children?
