Wrong answer

Dr. Grumpy: "What can I do for you?"

Mrs. Wreck: "I was in a car accident, and my lawyer wanted me to be seen because..."

Dr. Grumpy: "Ma'am, I don't take legal cases anymore. Didn't Mary tell you that when you called?"

Mrs. Wreck: "She did, so I had a friend call back and make the appointment for me. I figured once I was in here you wouldn't say no."

But did you examine her, or send her away?

"That's how I got my lawyer in the first place."

"My friend didn't want to call you at first, but I figured once I let myself into her house and dialed your number, she'd go along with it. Actually, she was more of a total stranger, but I figured once I let myself into her house, she'd go along with it and be my friend."

Right. And when I'm deposed because the insurance thinks you're malingering, I'll tell them I can't be certain, but you sure had no trouble lying to get the appointment with me.

ohmigod that's ridiculous. I did see a couple workers comp wanna be patients on neurosurgery, and it was actually kind of funny, especially when the patient lost vibratory sense in his knee and elbow but NOT in his big toe or thumb...

I wish the doctor I worked for was like you. We get these all of the time. "we do not take work comps maam" "oh is wasnt from my work" Then i have the medical assistant come out of the exam room and tell me that it is a freaking work comp. My doctor goes in just the freaking yes man, then i have to send a bill directly to the pt. they dont pay. GRRR the patient should have to swear on a bible before they go into the treatment room... Freaking Liars!!
BTW love your blog!

Patients changing stories when the doc comes in...just priceless.

Had this happen to me more than a few times when I had "administration" step in to get a patient bumped up in the list in our sister unit.

Just doubles the work...and usually pisses off the patient, when they could have just sent them to the right bureaucratic department in the first place.
