I remember working nights at the hospital pharmacy and when there were unresolvable domestic issues at home, I arrived to the shift with barely 1 or 2 hours of sleep on board. (Which can be rather scary to think about in retrospect.)
One night, I was also ill with prodromal effects of a virus (but not ill enough to be able to ask to get off work), desperately banking on the alerting effects of adrenalin rushes in self-perceived urgencies, etc.. It was about 2 AM and I was vainly attempting to avoid nodding off, while sending computer messages to the units about providing more information for pharmacy orders, like what are the patient's allergies, when will patient need next insulin drip refill, please come by in the next 30 min. to pick up the prepared Dilaudid drip, etc. So, I sent this message to the nurse, telling her the requested drip was ready and asking her to please stop by to pick it up. When I looked at the printout copy a few minutes later, I realized I'd asked her to 'please come by for we are ready for her to now pick her nose'.
Thank the Good Lord, that night shifts are now few and far between, and God grant those assigned to night shifts adequate rest!
